International Students Welcome

Kia Ora, Nǐ hǎo 你好, Annyeonghaseyo 안녕하세요, Kon'nichiwa こんにちは
Welcome to Titirangi Primary School. We are pleased to be able to welcome International Students to our school. Our school is a perfect place for your child to learn about the culture and environment of New Zealand.

About our school

Titirangi Primary School in Auckland, New Zealand is a learner-centered environment, with an emphasis on fostering a positive community that is safe, supportive and collaborative. We are very proud of the high-quality teaching and learning that we offer at our school with many opportunities for our learners to learn, achieve and succeed academically, socially, culturally and in sports.

We are a Green-Gold Enviro School set on the edge of native New Zealand forests and beaches. Our students are connected and respectful of their school and their local environment.

We appreciate the growing cultural diversity of our students. We value the contribution of students and families from different countries bring to our school community.

Curriculum and learning

At Titirangi Primary School our curriculum is broad, including the core subjects (reading, writing, maths) and non-core subjects (science, technology, health, physical education, and the arts). Each term of the school year there is a major Concept focus throughout the school to ensure that our curriculum is balanced. We use an inquiry process where students pose questions they are wondering/curious about related to the current Concept, then use their research skills to investigate and find answers. Students can develop their passions and interests through cultural activities, sports, Education Outside of the classroom (EOTC).

We have a strong tradition of sporting endeavour as well as Education Outside of the classroom, where we believe in the power of learning both inside and outside of the classroom. We recognise the value of educating our students rather than simply teaching them; this provides rich opportunities to deliver this broad education:

  • A highlight of primary schooling is the opportunity to go to School Camp. This provides learning opportunities for the children in terms of building resilience and relationships with their class. Camp Adair is a popular choice for the school and in previous years Motu Moana.
  • Students visit the Arataki Education Centre and engage in environmental learning programmes.
  • Students visit the Titirangi Library to further develop their library information skills.
  • Students visit Te Uru Art Gallery, Titirangi, where they engage in community learning and work with local artist educators to develop their artistic creativity and art appreciation.
  • Year 5 and 6 participate in the NZ Waterwise, water safety programme, learning about water safety through sailing.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Programme

The school has a commitment to developing programmes and strategies to meet the needs of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. Each year a specific programme is developed to meet individuals and school-wide needs and is run by the ESOL teacher. Our Literacy Programme uses small group reading and writing sessions for further skill development.

Additional Student Support

  • Specialised language help and assistance as required.
  • An orientation programme and continued support.
  • Small group tuition.
  • Friendly and safe environment.
  • Individual learning programmes when required.
