Digital Learning at the different Year Levels

Information on Devices (School owned and BYOD)

Digital Learning

Digital tools offer exciting opportunities and are capable of opening up whole new worlds of learning for children. At Titirangi Primary School digital learning through devices (iPads or Chromebooks) is used to support the in-class learning experiences.

YEARS 1-2

  • In Junior School, digital technology is used as part of classroom teaching via TV's, and some shared classroom devices.
  • The majority of teaching within the classroom is through group, individual and whole class teaching, without devcies.

YEARS 3 & 4

  • In years 3 and 4, classrooms have access to school owned chromebooks to support in the class teaching as applicable.
  • 'Bring your own device' (BYOD) is optional but not necessary as the school owned devices cater to the digital needs of the class.

YEARS 5 & 6

  • In years 5 and 6, 'Bring your own device' (BYOD-Chromebooks) is optional but recommended.
  • We have devices available for students that are unable to bring their own. No students will miss out on access to digital learning is they do not have their personally owned chromebbok.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device - Chromebook)

  • If you would like your child to bring their personally owned Chromebook from home, or would like to know more abotu this option. Please feel free to contact: Mike Chatfield (Deputy Principal, IT Leader) - mikec@titirangi.school.nz
  • Any children that are going to being their personally owned Chromebook from home MUST complete a BYOD Permisson form and return it to school before bringing their device to school. These forms are available from the school office or classroom teachers.

CHOOSING A DEVICE - If your family is considering BYOD-CHROMEBOOK

  • We are a Google Based school - a Chromebook is the device we request for BYOD. The chosen device must be able to:
  • Have the students Titirangi School Google Account loaded: e.g. student123@titirangi.school.nz as an account to login at machine startup.
  • Have Google Chrome installed, this is because: the Google Chrome Extension "Linewize" is added via a students school google account - this authenticates students, giving access to the Student Wifi. Without it, they cannot access the internet.
  • Connect to Titirangi Student Wifi only - (no use of 3G or 4G networks, t-sticks or vodem sticks will be permitted.)
  • Has a screen no smaller than 10 inches
  • Has a keyboard
  • Has a protective cover or case

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP

We need to learn how to keep ourselves safe and make good choices in ways we interact when we are online. Good digital citizens help to make our school a safe and positive place for everyone. Therefore, all learners, with their parents, are asked to read and Titirangi School's Digital Technologies and Cyber Safety Student Use Agreement. We also recommend visiting the Netsafe website for advice about online safety for children.

  • The Cyber Safety Student Use Agreement is reviewed annually. To get the most up to date version, feel free to contact Deptuy Principal, Mike Chatfield - mikec@titirangi.school.nz

ONLINE SAFETY SETUP AT TITIRANGI PRIMARY SCHOOL

  • Titirangi Primary School internet connection is provisioned through the Ministry of Education "Network for Learning" (N4L). This provides a layer of digital security and filtering to all online traffic at the school.
  • Titirangi Primary School has an additional layer of security for all online use at school via Linewize. This gives teachers the ability to open and closed online tools and access points as is applicable to the learning happening in the class.
  • Linewize comes with a Google Chrome Extension - this authorises student users to access the internet. Without this, they cannot get online.
  • The school receives reports and "red flags" for any searches that are reported as concerning. Teachers will initially discuss with students. For any online actions that are of greater concern, parents will often be notified so that their family can discuss in a manner that suits their household.
  • Any questions relating to this - please feel free to contact Mike Chatfield, either through the school office or via email mikec@titirangi.school.nz

If you have any questions or feedback, please contact us or ask your teacher.
